The Russian Academy of Arts suffered a heavy loss. On December 9, 2023, Stanislav Gennadyevich Moskvitin (1972-2023), Honored Artist of the Russian Federation, corresponding member of the Painting Department of the Russian Academy of Arts, passed away.
His diploma work was dedicated to Emperor Paul Petrovich and was the first painting in a series of portraits of Russian tsars conceived by the artist. In graduate school he studied Russian bylinas, the final work was the painting “Dobrynya and the Serpent”. The portrait of the snake fighter Dobrynya Nikitich marked the beginning of another cycle – a series of portraits of Bylina bogatyrs. The landscapes painted by the author in the Russian North are filled with special charm and spirituality. The author followed the principle that “the image should reflect the beauty of God’s world around us, admiration of the sky that flies over the boundless fields”.
Stanislav Gennadyevich was a versatile master working in different genres. Together with his fellow teachers, he worked for the revival of church painting. He took part in the painting of the churches of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary and Alexander Nevsky in Verkhnyaya Pyshma, Alexei Mikhailovich’s palace in Kolomenskoye, the ceremonial reception room of the Ministry of Culture. He worked as part of groups of artists who painted icons for churches, including the Monastery of the Royal Passion-Bearers near Alapaevsk.
One of the first graduates of Ilya Glazunov’s Russian Academy of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture.
The artist’s works are highly sought after by collectors and after his death were sold out almost to zero.
The value of the artist’s work is certainly increasing and will increase in the progression of time to the date of his death.
