Antique, vintage, table silver stack shifter in the form of a reduced copy of the Cavalergard helmet.
Silver 84 proof with gilding of the inner surface, Faberge workshop with initials of the master-jeweler (O.R.).
Dated 1898-1908, Russian Empire.
The helmet is crowned with an imperial double-headed eagle – the bird of God, the ruler of heaven, a symbol of true courage

Peter Carl Fabergé was born in St. Petersburg on May 30, 1846. In 1842, Fabergé Sr. founded a jewelry firm in St. Petersburg.
At the age of 24, in 1870, Carl Fabergé took over his father’s firm. In 1882, at the All-Russian Art and Industry Exhibition in Moscow, the products of his firm attracted the attention of Emperor Alexander III. Peter Carl received the patronage of the royal family and the title of “jeweler of His Imperial Majesty and jeweler of the Imperial Hermitage”.
“Fabergé is an incomparable genius of our time”. Maria Fyodorovna spoke so flatteringly of the master in a letter to her sister, Queen Alexandra of England.
The Fabergé firm was famous in Europe. Many relatives of the imperial family in Great Britain, Denmark, Greece and Bulgaria received pieces as gifts. In 1900 in Paris, Fabergé received the title of “Master of the Paris Jewelers’ Guild” and was awarded the Legion of Honor.
In 1899-1900 in the center of St. Petersburg the main building of Faberge’s firm was erected according to the project of architect Karl Schmidt, the jeweler’s great-nephew. The first floors housed a store and workshops. The rest of the building was occupied by the Fabergé family’s living quarters.
