AbstractThe tobacco box is both an object of personal use and a popular collector’s item since it became fashionable in the 18th century. Since the end of the century in the village of Danilkovo near Moscow (now a part of Fedoskino) P.I. Korobov established production of lacquer snuffboxes made of papier-mâché. These were round snuff boxes of black lacquer decorated with miniature engravings, later they began to be decorated with pictorial miniatures. The factory of the Moscow merchant Peter Vasilyevich Lukutin (1784-1864) was an improved production based on the factory of his father-in-law, Korobov. In 1828, for his successes, Lukutin received permission to put a name brand under the double-headed eagle on the inside of the products.
