    • Bronze ciotic cross
    • Kyoto cross made by an unknown master in the XIX century. In the center, according to iconographic tradition, is the figure of the crucified Jesus Christ. A cross is inscribed inside his halo – only the Savior was depicted in this way. In the upper part there is Sabaoth – God the Father in the clouds, blessing with both hands.
    • On the top rung is the holy host of God the Father, two angels holding pieces of cloth. The cloth, or covering, signifies that Jesus Christ is under heavenly protection. Next to the angels, the third hypostasis of the Trinity, the Holy Spirit, is depicted in the form of a dove.
    • At the open palms of Christ’s hands you can see the convex letters “IC XC” – this is how his name was abbreviated on crosses and icons. On his sides, the master cast from copper the Instruments of the Passion: a spear and a cane. On the cane Jesus Christ was given a sponge moistened with vinegar to quench his thirst. With the spear the Roman soldier Longinus the Sotnik pierced the Savior’s ribs to make sure he was dead.
    • At the feet of the crucified Christ is the canonical image of Adam’s skull. Golgotha, the name of the hill on which he was crucified, translates as “skull.” The Gospel says that as soon as the blood of the crucified Savior washed the skull of the first man, Adam, the atonement for all human sins took place.
    • Crosses in Russia were a household relic: they were inherited, christenings and funerals were not without them. A cross placed in a kiot – a wooden cabinet with glass – appeared with the tradition to consecrate a dwelling before settling in. They were taken with them on journeys to pray on the road, they differed from body crosses by their large size and lack of an ear for a homemade cord or chain.
