The 84th silver assay belongs to the gold standard system of assays, which appeared in pre-revolutionary Russia. In the eighteenth century there were about a dozen such samples, but by the end of the nineteenth century the number of popular samples had dwindled to four. Among them was the 84th sample.
In the past, only the wealthy could afford these items. However, even today their price is quite high, as well as their antique value.
