On the back cover engraved cherub, on the front abbreviation of the owner (could not be determined foreign archives are now closed for use).
Enamel dial with large Arabic numerals in peerless condition (no chips or cracks).
Engraved movement on 21 ruby stones, stones in chatons with screws, engraved Father Time – Father Time (*).

Elgin National Watch Co.
A pocket open watch by one of the leading nineteenth-century American manufacturers, the Elgin Company of Illinois.
The company was first incorporated in August 1864 as the National Watch Company of Chicago, Illinois, by Philon Carpenter, Howard Z. Culver, Benjamin W. Raymond, George M. Wheeler, Thomas S. Dickerson, Edward H. Williams, and W. Robbins. In September of that year, the founders visited the Waltham Watch Company in Waltham, Massachusetts, and enticed seven Waltham watch engineers to come work for their new company. The Elgin National Watch Company, commonly known as the Elgin Watch Company, was, along with Waltham, one of the two leading watch manufacturers in the United States since the second half of the nineteenth century. The company sold watches under the Elgin, Lord Elgin, and Lady Elgin brand names. For nearly 100 years, the company’s complex in Elgin, Illinois, was the world’s largest watchmaking facility. The factory closed in 1964, having by that point produced about half of all the watches made in the United States during those hundred years.

In recent centuries he is usually depicted as an elderly bearded man, sometimes with wings , dressed in a robe and carrying a scythe and an hourglass or other device for measuring time.
