Background: Popeye the Sailor(English: Popeye the Sailor, the name is derived from the English pop-eyed ” pop-eyed “, ” beady-eyed “, literally ” Popeye“) – a hero of American comic books and cartoons.The history of the character began on January 17, 1929, when the next issue was published with a new story about the brave sailor. A certain sailor joined the already existing characters of the comic strip – Olive Oyl (Olive Oil), Ham Gravy (Olive’s first boyfriend, Ham in Gravy) and Castor Oyl (Olive’s brother, Castor Oil). His first words were in response to Castor Oil’s question, “Hey you there! “Hey there! Are you a sailor?” – ” Do you think I’m a cowboy?” (Initially, Popeye was given a modest cameo role; Segar intended his presence in the comic to end as soon as the story ended. However, the character’s popularity among readers skyrocketed, and the author quickly refocused the story, making the sailor the protagonist. Ham Gravy and Castor Oil were relegated to the background, and later disappeared from the comics altogether (Ham Gravy forever).
