“Vostok is a three-stage launch vehicle for launching spacecraft; all stages use liquid propellant. Vostok boosters were used to orbit all spacecraft of the Vostok series, Luna-1 to Luna-3 spacecraft, some artificial Earth satellites of the Cosmos, Meteor and Electron series. The first launch (unsuccessful) took place on September 23, 1958, the first successful launch took place on January 2, 1959. The launch of the launch vehicle with the first manned spacecraft “Vostok” took place on April 12, 1961. It is a part of the R-7 family.
