Montpensier (French: montpensier) – small multicolored lollipops with a pronounced aroma. In the past, the flavor was provided by spices, nowadays it is provided by fruit essences.
The name comes from the Duchesse de Montpensier, known from Dumas’ novels as La Grande Mademoiselle. The name was adopted in Russia to distinguish it from large painted shaped lollipops (bear, rooster and the like) and candy candies of rectangular or cylindrical shape (transparent, barberry, theatrical, mint).
