Background:The miniature of the statue crowning the Warsaw monument called “Sigismund’s Column” is the work of Clemente Molli of Bologna, cast in bronze by Daniel Tim from Gdansk. The king was represented as a Knight of Christianity and an independent ruler: in a closed crown, in armor, in a decorative royal cloak, with the Order of the Golden Fleece, with a cross and a sword in his hands, with a helmet at his feet. The statuette is based on the model of Leonardo Marconi (1835-1899), kept in the National Museum in Warsaw, cast at the Warsaw Mint (opened in 1828-1881) in mid-1864.Sigismund III – King of Poland and Grand Duke of Lithuania from December 27, 1587, King of Sweden from November 27, 1592 to July 1599, grandson of Gustav Vasa and Sigismund the Old, son of Swedish King Johan III and Katerina Jagiellonka, father of Wladyslaw IV.
