The Kaslinsky factory of art casting was founded in 1751. A large collection of Kaslinsky castings is presented in the Yekaterinburg Museum of Fine Arts.
Eugene Naps is a self-taught sculptor, restorer, draftsman and painter. From a family of Baltic Germans. He worked in St. Petersburg. He was engaged in restoration of porcelain, small plastics and bronze sculpture for antique dealers and collectors. At an early stage of creativity Naps more than once used the subjects of E. A. Lanceret and was generally under his strong influence, which is reflected in such sculptural groups as “General M. D. Skobelev on Horseback”, “Troika in Winter” and “Cossack on Horseback”.
A similar sculpture is published in the album “Casting of the Kaslinsky Plant of Architectural and Artistic Casting. Artistic Things”, Kasli 2011, p. 21 fig. 4.
