Background:Eric Marienthal (September 19, 1957 – present) is a saxophonist who plays a mix of styles (so-called modern jazz, smooth jazz), fusion and pop.After graduating from high school in 1976, he attended Berklee College of Music, where he studied saxophone with legendary professor Joe Viola. Eric Marienthal began his professional career in 1980 with a tour with New Orleans trumpeter Al Hirt. He also worked at studios (he was on the staff of Disney). In 1986, Eric joined the Chick Corea Elektric Band. Working with the GRP label, he recorded 6 albums with the Chick Corea band, two of which won Grammy awards. Such was the rise of a modern jazz star. During his professional career, Eric has performed with a myriad of well-known artists including Elton John, Barbara Streisand, Billy Joel, Stevie Wonder, Dionne Warwick and many others. In 1995, he received the Berklee Distinguished Alumnus Award for outstanding achievement in contemporary music. Since then Eric has visited more than 65 different countries (including Russia and Ukraine), recorded 11 solo albums, hundreds of recordings (as a session musician) for movies, TV shows and commercial music sets. Perhaps, almost all Russian residents have heard Eric Marienthal, even if they didn’t realize it, in the splash screen of the television series “Santa Barbara”.
Among his 11 solo records is a dedication to Cannonball Adderley, a 1998 album called “Walk Tall”. Throughout his professional career, Eric Marienthal’s works have repeatedly been at the top of various charts. Six of his compositions were for a long time in the top ten of the National Contemporary Jazz Radio Charts, two of which reached the first place. The album “Oasis” reached the top 5 Contemporary Jazz Chart of the influential music magazine Billboard. Eric was nominated in Jazziz Magazine’s Reader’s Poll as the best alto saxophonist of the year along with David Sanborn and Phil Woods.

From time to time, Eric Marienthal demonstrates to listeners the abilities of a creative improviser, moving away from the usual mix of styles, which generally does not allow connoisseurs of orthodox jazz with their usual disdain to treat the performance skills of this musician.
