Francesco Antonio Simonini was a painter, draftsman and engraver. One of the most prominent representatives of the battle genre in European painting of the XVIII century. He received his professional art education in the workshop of Ilario Spolverini in Parma, and continued it under Francesco Monti. As a young man he moved to Florence, where he began his artistic activity by copying the works of the popular battalist Jacques Courtois (Bourguignon). He was also indirectly influenced by the Dutchman Philips Wauwerman and the Flemish Adam Frans van der Meulen, who naturalized in France. He worked in Rome, Bologna and Venice. His works are kept in museums in Bergamo, Florence, Padua, Budapest, Graz and Hanover.
The artist’s works are in private collections and the National Gallery of London
