The history of the Tudor brand dates back to 1946, when Hans Wilsdorf, the founder of Rolex, opened the company Montres Tudor SA. However, the name itself appeared in 1926, when it was registered by the Swiss watchmaking company Veuve de Philippe Hüther, acting on behalf of Hans Wilsdorf.
March 1946 marked the beginning of the company’s real expansion. Hans Wilsdorf explained his decision in a statement: “I have been thinking of creating a watch that our agents could offer at prices more modest than Rolex, and which would still meet the high level of reliability for which Rolex is renowned.
The “pioneer” Hans Wilsdorf hoped to reach a wider audience with Tudor by offering a product whose quality was guaranteed by the “parent company”. The new brand was to be the epitome of advanced technology, functionality and superior design, backed up by a worldwide distribution network and excellent warranty service.
