Reference: Adam Bernard Mickiewicz – December 24, 1798, Zaosie Folvark, Novogrudok District, Vilna Province, Russian Empire (now Grodno Oblast, Belarus) – November 26, 1855, Constantinople, Ottoman Empire) – Polish writer, poet and translator, playwright, teacher, political publicist, a figure of the Polish national movement, a member of the Philomatist Society.He had a great influence on the formation of Polish, Lithuanian, Belarusian and Ukrainian literature of the XIX century. In Poland he is considered one of the three greatest Polish-speaking poets of the Romanticism era (along with Juliusz Slovak and Zygmunt Krasinski). Belarusian literary scholars consider Mickiewicz to be one of the progenitors of the new Belarusian literature; Mickiewicz’s works are included in the school program of Belarusian literature.
