J Dixon & Sons (James Dixon & Sons), founded in 1806 in Sheffield , was one of the largest British manufacturers of the Industrial Revolution . They were manufacturers of pewter ware, British plated metal, plated silverware and plated cupronickel. Their products included hundreds of items for use in the kitchen (e.g. bowls, cutting tools) and dining room (e.g. tea sets, shakers and mixers), as well as items such as candlesticks. In the nineteenth century they were a world leader in the manufacture of shooting accessories and exported powder pots to America in large quantities. They were known as manufacturers of whistles which, like most of their products, were of outstanding quality.
