Silver 84 proof, master’s mark S&Co (Shanks & Co – Shanks James Stewart, owner of jewelry workshop and trading house in St. Petersburg, 1884-1908)
A luxurious item from a major master of Tsarist Russia with incredibly exquisite and coarsely minted ornamentation on the torso and hilt
The centerpiece is decorated with the abbreviation of a 19th century statuesque lady, the letters EM or ME
Clear stamps on all separate elements (rim and body)
The item is in absolutely usable condition and would grace a ladies’ table or private mirror collection with dignity

The 84th silver assay belongs to the gold standard system of assays, which appeared in pre-revolutionary Russia. In the XVIII century there were about a dozen such samples, but by the end of the XIX century the number of popular samples was reduced to four. Among them was the 84th sample.
In the past, only wealthy people could afford these items. However, even today their price is quite high, as well as their antique value.
