“Samvel” is a historical novel by the Armenian writer Raffi. The first volume of the novel was written in 1880s and finished in 1886. However, the second volume of the novel was not written. The novel is about the situation of Armenia in the middle of the fourth century. “Samvel” is considered one of the best novels of Raffi and Armenian literature in general. This novel has been introduced into the school program of Armenia. In the traditional Armenian spelling, the name Samvel was written as “Samuel”, which was also the name of the novel. Later, after the spelling reform in Soviet Armenia, the novel was printed under the name “Samvel”.
