    • Reference: Tobacco boxes made of pressed cardboard impregnated with oil and dried at a certain temperature (80-100 C) began to be made in Europe. This material was called “papier-mache”. At that time it was fashionable to “sniff tobacco”. The history of Fedoskino lacquer miniatures begins in the village of Danilkovo, which is located near the ancient village of Fedoskino on the bank of the Uchi River. Here, in 1795, merchant Peter Ivanovich Korobov opened a factory for the production of lacquer visors made of papier-mache.

Production grew rapidly, and by the beginning of the first decade of the nineteenth century, the factory mass produced snuffboxes with oil painting and paper engravings covered with varnish.

In 1810, merchant Pyotr Vasilyevich Lukutin married the daughter of Pyotr Ivanovich Korobov and received as a dowry a lacquer factory in Danilkovo. Under Peter Lukutin, with whom his son Alexander worked, the range of products was rapidly expanding. On sale appeared caskets, snuff boxes, glasses, eyeglasses and much more.
