René Antoine Réomur was a French naturalist and naturalist, entomologist, physicist and mathematician.

Main works in physics, zoology, etc. In 1730 he described the alcohol thermometer invented by him, the scale of which was determined by the boiling and freezing points of water and was divided into 80 degrees.
In 1730. In 1730, Rheaumur proposed the temperature scale that was later named after him. It is erroneously believed that one degree of this scale is equal to 1/80 of the difference between the boiling point of water and the melting point of ice (i.e., a degree of Rheaumur is equal to 5/4 degrees Celsius); the scale has practically fallen out of use.
Rheaumur was not the first to take up this task. There already existed Galileo’s thermoscope, thermometers of Florentine academicians and Fahrenheit thermometric scale. Not only that, there was already a scale of St. Petersburg academician J. Delille, who chose one single value as a reference point – the boiling point of water.
