IV Summer Spartakiade of the Peoples of the USSR – was held in Moscow from July 28 to August 4, 1967, the finals were held in 23 traditional sports. In addition, starting from this Spartakiade, the program of the Games began to include competitions in technical sports.
Starting from the earliest stage of selection, about 80 million people became participants of the Spartakiade, 170 thousand teams of physical training workers took part in the competitions. In the final stage of the Spartakiade 8348 athletes from 17 teams representing all Union republics plus the teams of Leningrad and Moscow took part. The games were attended by 5333 honored masters of sports of the USSR – three times more than at the I Spartakiade in 1956. The Spartakiade was dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the Great October Revolution. 46 records of the USSR, 12 records of Europe, 20 records of the world were set. For the fourth time in a row the team victory was won by the Moscow team with 594 points, the second place with 576 points was taken by the RSFSR team, the third place was taken by the USSR team with 561 points.
