Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky is a Russian composer, teacher, conductor and music critic.
Tchaikovsky’s legacy is represented by various genres: ten operas, three ballets, seven symphonies (six numbered and the Manfred Symphony), 104 romances, a number of programmed symphonic works, concertos and chamber instrumental ensembles, choral works, cantatas, piano miniatures and piano cycles. His work represents an extremely valuable contribution to world musical culture and, along with the work of his contemporaries – the composers of the “Mighty Handful” – marks a new stage in the development of Russian music.
Tchaikovsky is one of the world’s greatest composers, a bright representative of musical romanticism and one of the outstanding lyricists and dramatists-psychologists in music, who delved into psychological analysis of complex and contradictory phenomena of life.
