Background: Thomas Jefferson(April 13, 1743, Shadwell, Virginia Colony, Thirteenth Colony, British Empire – July 4, 1826, Charlottesville, Virginia, USA) was an American statesman, one of the founding fathers of the United States and authors of the Declaration of Independence (1776), 3rd President of the United States, 1801-1809, an outstanding politician, diplomat and philosopher of the Age of Enlightenment. The major events of his presidency were the purchase of Louisiana from France (1803) and the Lewis and Clark Expedition (1804-1806). In 1778, he drafted the “Bill for the Universal Dissemination of Knowledge.” He researched Indian burials.
