Dinamo Zagreb is a Croatian professional soccer club from Zagreb. It was founded in 1945 on the basis of three Zagreb clubs (disbanded by the Communist Party of Yugoslavia): “Grajanski”, “Concordia” and HASK. The club is the most titled club in Croatia during the period of independence – 25-time Croatian champion, 17-time Croatian Cup winner and 8-time Croatian Super Cup winner. The club has spent its entire history in the top division, having been a member of the Yugoslavian First League from 1946 to 1991, since 1992 it has been playing in the Croatian Top Division.
“Dinamo” made it to the First League of Yugoslavia in the 1946/47 season and finished second. The following season Dinamo finished the championship in first place – the first major trophy for the club. Dinamo then won 7 Yugoslavian championships and 3 Yugoslavian Cups before leaving the Yugoslavian championship in 1991 due to the breakup of Yugoslavia. Dinamo Zagreb is the only soccer club in Croatia to have a European gold medal, won at the 1966/1967 Fairs Cup, beating Leeds United in the final, 2-0 in two games. The club also won silverware in 1963, losing 1-2 to Valencia in the final.
