Paul von Hindenburg (1847-1934) was a prominent German military leader who became famous in the battles of World War I, especially the Battle of Tannenberg in 1914.
After the war, he became president of the Weimar Republic in 1925 and held that office until his death in 1934.
His presidency coincided with a period of political instability in Germany, culminating in the appointment of Adolf Hitler as Chancellor in 1933.
Hindenburg’s name is also associated with the famous airship Hindenburg, which crashed in 1937, although Hindenburg himself had already passed away by then.
