This luxurious book-encyclopedia is grandiose in conception and execution. For the first time in Russia, the book honors the entire elite of the country – the imperial family, patrons of the arts, industrialists, financiers, clergy, representatives of science, medicine, education, art, state, military and public figures of St. Petersburg, Moscow, other cities, central and remote provinces.

The front cover of the binding is decorated with embossed bas-reliefs with portraits of Mikhail Fyodorovich and Nicholas II.
The book opens with portraits of Nicholas II, Alexandra Feodorovna and their children.
The text is complemented by portraits of prominent people and numerous drawings.
The main part of the book contains biographies of outstanding people of the late XIX – early XX century. It shows representatives of different estates, nationalities and confessions, who by their labor and service increased the wealth, glory and power of Russia.
The book honors such outstanding personalities as Metropolitan Vladimir (Bogoyavlensky), chief administrator of land management and farming AV Krivoshein, commander of the Nikolaev Yacht Club P.P. Yuritsyn, Major-General A.R. Dennett, mechanotherapist, teacher of orthopedic gymnastics Sven Alexanderson, artist A.G. Pekarskaya, rider V.F. Chistyakov. Dennett, mechanotherapist, teacher of orthopedic gymnastics Sven Alexanderson, artist A.G. Pekarskaya, rider V.F. Chistyakov, merchant N.A. Plugatyryov, sugar producer A.V. Sirotkin and many others – a total of more than a hundred people.
Several editions devoted to the ruling dynasty have been published. M.S. Gugel’s edition stands out among the others for its monumentality, breadth of material coverage and luxurious design. It is interesting that V.M. Sablin, who brilliantly printed the edition of this book, published, among others, books by A.I. Herzen, A. Bebel and other revolutionaries in his publishing house. But by 1913 he gave up the book publishing business, leaving only the printing house behind.
